॥ श्रीसुब्रह्मण्यस्तोत्रम्॥ Shri Subrahmanya Stotram by P.R. Kannan

May Karthikeya, born of the fire of the (third) eye of Shiva, borne by Vayu, Agni and Ganga, who sported in Saravana, ever protect us. (1)

In Saravana pond, Subrahmanya was suckled by the six Krittika deities and hence came to be known as Karthikeya.

Right at birth, Kumara released six Munis, the sons of Rishi Parasara, from their father’s curse and later bestowed Jnana on them. (2)

The six sons of Parasara were cursed by him to become fishes, when he found them removing fishes from river, enjoying their misery and then restoring them to the river.

May the compassionate Swaminatha, who imprisoned the proud and ignorant Brahma, ever protect us on all sides. (3)

May the effulgent Subrahmanya, who expounded the meaning of Om, mounted upon the shoulder of Siva, ever protect us on all sides. (4)

May Kumara, who revealed the universal form to the Devas under the pretext of a childhood pastime, ever protect us on all sides. (5)

May Visakha, who subdued the vile goat that arose from the yajnakunda of a Muni and made it his first mount, ever protect us on all sides. (6)

May Guha, wielder of the weapon ‘ Shakti’ (Vel), filled with the power of Mother Ambika, and who is master in waging battles marked by illusion, ever protect us on all sides. (7)

May Mahasena, who revealed the universal form to the Asura Surapadma on the battleground, ever protect us on all sides. (8)

May Skanda, who showed compassion on the battlefield to  Surapadma, who became peacock and rooster, ever protect us on all sides. (9)

May Senani, for whom the peacock became mount and the rooster became banner, thus serving Skanda intently, ever protect us. (10)

May the two daughters, born of Vishnu of boundless effulgence, who were immersed in devotion of Guha and performed Tapas, ever protect us on all sides. (11)

May those Devis, Devasena and Valli, who were later brought up by Indra and a hunter, and whom Guha married, ever protect us on all sides. (12)

May the Shaktis, Valli, the Shakti of will, Devasena, the Shakti of action and the weapon Shakti (Vel), the repository of the power of Jnana, ever protect us. (13)

May Guha, full of compassion, shining in the six celebrated seats (Arupadai Veedu in Tamil), and adored by the two Devis, ever protect us on all sides. (14)

May this Stotra on Guha, which has been penned by the grace of Guha and the revered Guru, bestow all auspiciousness on one who reads and meditates on it. (15)
