Ram Yantra installed in Ram Temple in Ayodhya
It carries an embedded Sanskrit prayer that symbolically invites Sri Rama to reside eternally at the temple.
A 3-by-3-ft Shri Ram Yantra weighing around 150 kg and carved out from five metals (panch dhatu) with an upper layer of 24-carat gold was installed on the second floor of the Ram Temple in Ayodhya in the presence of President Droupadi Murmu on March 19, 2026.
The Ram Yantra is a finely detailed diagram etched with intricate religious patterns featuring multiple interlocking triangles, precise trigonometric alignments, and concentric patterns designed in accordance with traditional shilpa shastra principles.
According to sources, these geometric forms, along with sacred inscriptions in Devanagari script embedded within the structure of the yantra, are believed to act as channels of divine energy, creating a spiritually charged and harmonious environment within the temple.
Unlike a conventional idol or artefact, a yantra in Hindu tradition represents a metaphysical blueprint of cosmic forces. The Shri Ram Yantra, in particular, is associated with invoking the presence, protection, and blessings of Lord Ram, sources said.

The Yantra was consecrated in Kanchipuram under the guidance of Jagadguru Sri Shankara Vijayendra Saraswathi Swamiji, Peethadipathi of the Kanchi Kamakoti Peetham. Sources said that elaborate Vedic rituals and purification ceremonies were performed there, sanctifying the Ram Yantra before its journey to Ayodhya. It was transported through a ceremonial Rath Yatra from Kanchipuram between November and early December 2024.
According to sources, the Ram Yantra has been modelled on an ancient Shri Ram Yantra housed in a temple (Upanishad Mutt) in Kanchipuram, reflecting continuity of a centuries-old spiritual tradition. After being brought to Ayodhya, it was initially placed on the first floor of the temple, where daily rituals and prayers were conducted while construction of the second floor was underway.
Swami Govind Giri Maharaj, Treasurer of the Trust, said the Ram Yantra has now been installed in the garbha griha (sanctum sanctorum) on the second floor following completion of construction, marking the culmination of a long-awaited process.

The Yantram has been sculpted following the ancient Sri Rama Yantram being worshipped in Upanishad Math, Kanchipuram. The Yantram in Upanishad Math is of Saligrama stone embossed with very select Mantras covering the main aspects and Avatars of Maha Vishnu. The Mantras are embedded with various Bijaksharas and embossed in old Grantha Script which has been used in South India since millennia. The Mantra of Rama and inside that the Bijakshara of Sita Devi is the Madhya Bindu of the Yantra. It is surrounded by a prayer to Srirama to bless one & all with Videha Kaivalya and unconditional Bhakti like that of Sanaka Maharshis.
There is then a special prayer which mentions Sri Rama to manifest in the Yantra like in Vaikuntha with all his aspects, powers, making Anjaneya Swamy to punish wrong doers and protect the good and to finally manifest in the devotee’s heart. The Yantra expands with Gayatri Mantras of Mantra, Yantra & Sri Rama again embedded with other Bijaksharas in the Shatkona design. Then it is surrounded by a special Mantra on Sri Rama, then by Ashtakshara, Vasudeva, Sudarshana & Narasimha Mantras all embossed in Padma Dalams. Then the word Vashat is written 86 times around these Mantras denoting their submission to Sri Rama.
Special shlokas denoting Jyotish Shastra praying for well-being & happiness of one & all with the blessings of Sri Rama even during adverse planetary positions are embossed. Finally the Yantra prays to Rama to immerse himself in the Yantra with all his sensory & physical aspects along with Manas, Buddhi, Ahankara & Chitta to bless one & all. The eight directions have his divine Ayudhas (weapons) to protect us from any negativity or evil and derive divine strength. The four bows and arrows are each distinctly designed. The Yantra is aesthetic, divine, embedded with Vaishnava Mantras & Bijaksharas and praying for Videha Kaivalya.
