This is Vasanta Rtu (Spring Season) and it’s the season of vibrant colours! Here is an easy rhyme written by me, for children and beginners to learn ‘colours’ in Samskrtam. Please do teach it to those around you, so as to introduce this divine language in a fun way–
पाटल-पुष्प! त्वं रक्तम्।
O Flower Rose! You are red.
विस्तृत-गगन! त्वं नीलम्।
O wide sky! you are blue.
स्वादु-क्षीर! अवि श्वेतम्।
O tasty milk! You are white.
कुड्ये फलक! त्वं कृष्णम्।
O board on the wall! You are black.
मधुराम्र! त्वम् अवि पीतम्|
O sweet mango! You are yellow.
क्षेत्रे िस्य! त्वं हररतम्।
O crop in the field! You are green.
जगवददं ििं िर्णमयम्।
This world is colourful.
जगवददं ििणम् अवतरम्यम्।
This world is very beautiful.
Here is one more rhyme written by me on a parrot, whose favourite season is also Spring–
हे शुक! भ ोः शुक! आगच्छ।
Hey Parrot! O Parrot! Come.
त्वं मम विय इवत अिगच्छ।
Understand that you are dear to me.
रक्ता चञ्चू र चते मे।
Your red beak pleases me.
हररतम् अङ्गं िुन्दरं ते।
Your green body is beautiful.
स्वीकुरु, खाद फलम् आम्रम्,
Accept and eat, this mango fruit,
पीतं, मधुरं, रिभररतम्!
(which is) yellow, sweet and juicy!
हे शुक! भ ोः शुक! आगच्छ।
Hey Parrot! O Parrot! Come.
त्वं मम विय इवत अिगच्छ।
Understand that you are dear to me.

स्फुरवि रात्रौ नक्षत्र! (Twinkle, Twinkle)
विशाल-गगने विवचत्र!
ििणस्य परर ति स्थानम्।
िज्र-िमानं ति भानम्।
स्फुरवि रात्रौ नक्षत्र!
विशाल-गगने मम वमत्र!
हे मेष! वकम् अस्तस्त ऊर्ाण? (Baa baa! Black Sheep!)
आं, भ ोः! स्यूत-त्रय-पूर्ाण!
एकं स्वावमने दातव्यं,
स्वावमन्यै च अवप एकं,
विय-बालाय च पुनरेकम्।
